John Handel is a financial and economic historian with a particular focus on historical and contemporary financial market micro-structure, back office financial infrastructure, the relationship between finance and technology, and investment banking.

He is Research Director for the Center for Economy and Society and an Associate Research Professor at the SNF Agora Institute at The Johns Hopkins University.
